I am a creative spirit – I have been working with and on the web for more than 25 years: My daily work includes things like digital communication concepts, design, and content strategy, as well as front-end and back-end development, CMS integration, and accessibility. I enjoy this diversity – and I connect people, ideas, and technology with a great deal of empathy.

How readable a text is often determines whether it actually gets read. The contrast between foreground and background colors plays a significant role in this. In June 2025, WebKit integrated support for a new CSS function called contrast-color() into its engine as a feature flag. Unfortunately, no other browsers support this method yet.

When I read the news that Meta used many books and scientific papers from an illegal online library like LibGen to train its AI model “Llama 3” (It mimics human cognitive abilities by recognizing and ordering information from input data.), I was not surprised.

I just read an article by Noah Davis in which he argues that breadcrumbs have lost their relevance in modern, non-linear and context-driven web environments. Instead, dynamic and personalized navigation systems are coming to the fore, which respond better to users' expectations and adapt individually to their needs. This means that navigation is no longer linear, but purely context-related and needs-oriented. Breadcrumb navigation isherefore useless.

You probably know this: You're using Google Maps and enter a tunnel. Suddenly, it gets dark around you. The previously bright view of the maps on your phone display changes. The application switches to  Dark Mode. A big advantage: Your display remains pleasantly dimmed, without dazzling you with bright light. Many people prefer this view, as they find the contrast more comfortable.

For over 25 years, I have been dedicated to building accessible websites. Next year (2024), the EU Directive on the Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications will come into force. It aims to ensure that everyone has equal access to online services and information.

The IntersectionObserver interface is a JavaScript API that allows you to execute a function when an element enters or exits the viewport. It is commonly used to trigger animations when scrolling.

Everyone knows progress indicators during the installation of software. They are a nice visual solution to inform the user about the current state of a process.

I have been building websites for over 20 years. Over this time, type and scope of web projects have changed considerably, and also the way they are approached. With the use of content management systems, the agile development process has become increasingly important. Content structure, design and technology are developed jointly by all project participants on the living object.

Current practice in web development often does not tap the full potential of today’s technology. While results are sometimes achieved (through more technology than anybody possibly needs), the development process itself is not state-of-the-art. Many times the process is extremely time and cost consuming - for both contractors and decision makers as well as other stakeholders.
